Il Vizietto

Italian Renato Baldi has been living for 20 years with Frenchman Albin, known as Zazà, with whom he runs a “nightclub” for transvestites, “La Cage aux Folles,” in Saint Tropez. The two, who do not hide their homosexuality, live as husband and wife. In the Italian’s past, however, there was a very brief heterosexual fling, from which he was born with a son, Laurent. One fine day, the young man announces to his father and Zazá-who has been his mother during those 20 years-that he intends to marry Adrienne, the daughter of a prominent politician, a member of a party that aims to defend the moral order at all costs. The announcement of Laurent, who has been introduced to his parents by Adrienne as the son of a diplomat, throws Renato and Zazà into disarray as they are forced to pass themselves off-the day Adrienne’s parents come to meet their daughter’s future in-laws-as what they are not.
